Our History

Founding:

  • The Florida Association of Mortgage Brokers was officially incorporated on July 7, 1960.
  • This marked a significant step in the formal organization of mortgage professionals within the state.

Early Years and Growth:

  • The association emerged from a growing need for a unified voice to represent the interests of mortgage brokers in Florida.
  • In the early years, FAMB focused on:
    • Education: Providing professional development opportunities for its members.
    • Networking: Fostering connections within the mortgage industry.
    • Advocacy: Representing the interests of mortgage brokers before state and federal lawmakers.

Key Milestones:

  • 1973: FAMB played a crucial role in the founding of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB).
  • 1975: Walter Smith, a past president of FAMB, became the first president of NAMB.
  • Continued Evolution: Over the decades, FAMB has adapted to the evolving landscape of the mortgage industry, including:
    • Changes in regulations and technology.
    • The rise of new lending products and services.
    • The increasing importance of ethical conduct and consumer protection.

Present Day:

  • Today, FAMB, now known as the Florida Association of Mortgage Professionals, continues to serve as a vital resource for mortgage professionals throughout the state.
  • Core Focus:
    • Education and Training: Providing continuing education courses and professional development programs.
    • Advocacy: Representing the interests of its members before state and federal lawmakers.
    • Networking and Community: Offering opportunities for members to connect and build relationships.

Mission Statement
